Art Coaching Program
OBJECTIVES:
1. To review the artist's current creative process and his/her body of work; with the goal to understand the actual direction and stage of its creative development. Also, to review obstacles the work encounters, its missing points and the potential in the artist.
2. To explore and stimulate the creative nods in the artist to active them in order to create new work.
3. To build in the artist new patterns of creativity through art exercises, readings and by visits to museums, galleries and artist's studios.
4. To enhance the knowledge of art; specifically contemporary art through art courses.
5. To build the artist's identity, through a process of introspection and art dialogue.
6. To create an understanding of the artist's creative traits: what is inside and where does the work come from.
CHARACTERISTICS:
1. The Art Coaching program is a process applied individually to each artist and to his/her inner nucleus of creativity.
2. The Art Coaching program is an artistic process that develops through bi-weekly sessions (2 hours per session) in the artist's studio.
3. The Art Coaching program has two levels of six months each level.
Level 1: Six months
The first lev el will focus on the evaluation of the existing works, and though art exercises, art readings and discussion, to establish artistic improvements or new paths of creation.
Level 2: Six months
This level is oriented to produce a solid body of works accordingly with the process of Level 1, and to create an artistic of professional portfolio (artist statement, Photo CD, Resume). The artist is able to propose his/her work to institutions or art events.
In this level it would be the review or the creation of a Website. The artist will be suggested to create or to incorporate there works to his/her website.
PROGRAM
Level 1: Six months
Steps:
1. Evaluation of the artistic production of the artist. The artist must have in their studio all the artwork to be reviewed and discussed.
2. The evaluation will consist on analysis of the accomplishment and/or weaknesses of the work, to establish improvements and/or new paths of creation.
3. Discussion and clarification on the artist's inquires and doubts about their work, their artistic needs and artistic projection.
4. To enrich the creative nodes of the artist and the blocked areas of creation.
5. Art reading and art exercises to enrich the artistic level of comprehension of his/her current work and their new possibilities.
6. To define the artist's identity and why, how and from where the work is produced.
7. To profile and to define new elements in the work with the goal of producing a coherent and high quality group of works in the Level 2.
Level 2: Six months
Main Goals:
1. To produce a high quality body of works to propose to an art institution on to an art event.
2. To work with each one of the pieces in their details and finishing aspects to create an impeccable artistic production.
3. To orient the artist in how and to whom the works could be proposed in the art field. (This does not compromise the art coaching facilitator to get any specific exhibition or art show fot he artist; the facilitator's task would be to orient the artist in how to present his/her work and his/her different options in the art field).
SCHEDULE:
1. Two blocks of six months.
2. Sessions of 2:00 hours, every 2 weeks.

Art Critic and Curator
After obtaining a Ph. D. of Sociology in 1986, specializing in Sociology of Art, preceded by a French Master Degree in Art History (1986) and a French Master Degree in Social Sciences (1984) at Sorbonne University, in Paris, France, I have applied my knowledge of both art and sociology to various fields, the academic environment, as museum curator of the visual arts, as art couch to artist, as art consultant to collectors and galleries, as senior editor in art magazines as well and an art writer.
I studied my doctorate under the supervision and tutoring of a well known French sociologist Jean Duvignaud at Sorbonne University (Universite de Paris VII, Jussieu) in Paris. My doctoral thesis in Sociology of Art focused on the emergence of New Figurative painting in Latin America and Venezuela. I examined the social context and the cultural aspects of this unique genre and its mpact over the aesthetic phenomenon and focused int he visual characteristics of the figurative paintings. I also conducted interviews and passed structured questionnaires to members of cultural instituttions and to other active participants in this cultural phenomenon in order to reveal the multifarious social and cultural aspects involved in the figurative Latin america painting.
In order to keep current, I am conducting a research for a post doctoral thesis in Aesthetics at the Aesthetic Institute in Sorbonne University, Paris, France.
Regarding my academic activities; I have been teaching in several universities. Currently I am teaching at Florida Atlantic University, Dept. of Art History and Visual Arts, History of Graphic Design. At the Florida International University, Dept. of Art History in 2000 for courses such as, Critical Contemporary Theories and Methodology of Art Under-graduates and graduates levels contracted by former Chairperson, Dr. Carol Damian; at the American InterContinental University, School of Design 2003 to present, on courses such as, Art History, Freehand Drawing, Art Appreciation, History of Cinema, History of Fashion as well as courses in Sociology; at the Central University of Venezuela, School of Arts from 1987 to 1993 the following courses, History of Art, Cultural Sociology, Methodology of Art and its Theoretical Approaches, History, Culture and Art of Latin America as well as tutoring Thesis in Visual Arts.
Regarding my activities as a curator, I was the Guest Curator in 2004 at the Jewish Museum of Florida under directorship of Marzia Zerivitz, for the show "El Viaje. The Latin American Families and Artists"; Chies Curator since 2005 to present at the Hardcore Art Contemporary Space in Miami curating, among many exhibits, the group shows "Happili Ever After" during Art Basel Miami Beach 2006, "Hardcore Menu. Samples and Dishes" during Art Basel Miami Beach 2005, "International New Media Festival" first and second edition, 2006 and 2007 respectively; curator at Merrill Lynch Arteamericas Art Fair in Miami for six editions, from 2002 to 2008 for the show "Trends: Aspects of Latin American Art"; curator in 2005 at the KLIMA building in Chicago for the show "Occurrences: LAtin American at the Crossroads".
Regarding my activities as an editor, I was the Senior Editor from 2001 to 2007 of the art magazine "Arte al Dia Internacional" coordinating writings and editing content and layout. This art magazine is old for the international art community in Europe, North America and Latina America. Currently, I am the Art Consultant for this magazine together with Julian Zuzagoitia, director for the Museum del Barrio in New York, Irma Arestizabal curator for Latin America section at the 2007 Venice Biennale.
In addition to the above application of my knowledge, I was Docent Coordinator at the Miami Art Museum from 2003 to 2004 under the museum Senior Curator Peter Boswell and former museum director Suzanne Delahanty. I have also provided art lectures and talks to museums and art institutions, such as the Miami Art Museum, Museum of Latin American Art, among others.
As an art coach for artists I conducts assessments, evaluations and individual artistic orientation to artists. I facilitate the creative process and review the obstacles and the individual needs in their creative situation. I work among with them in their studios to produce a coherent and valuable body of work.
As an Art Consultant I conduct assessments and orientation to constitute and to organize Art Collections.
I have acquired a body of knowledge and experience that has greatly benefited academics, art literature, artists, collectors and institutions of visual arts. My goal is to continue in providing benefit by applying this body of knowledge to museums, universities and related art environments.
